A new client from St. Albans, Missouri, contacted JML Audio about installing a radar and laser defense system in his 2013 Audi RS5. You may know that there are three grades of Audi vehicles. Level one would be an A5. The step-up performance model would be an S5. If you really want a supercar, you buy the RS5 model. This beauty packs 450 hp of pure, unadulterated fun.
Superior Performance From Custom Radar And Laser Defense Systems
You can imagine that driving this car the way the engineers designed it means you are going to want a top-of-the-line radar and laser detector system. JML Audio is famous for our attention to detail, the care we give to vehicle, and the over-the-top performance of our custom-installed systems. We want all of our clients to know that a system from us is so well-engineered that we prefer to call them radar and laser defense systems to differentiate ourselves from our competition. It is our humble opinion that, if you want the best defense from a speeding ticket, a custom-installed system is the only way to go. We feel so passionate about this that we don’t even sell portable detectors because we feel they give drivers a false sense of security.
Front And Rear Sensors For Maximum Protection
In this Audi, we installed both front and rear radar detectors. All of our systems get sensors at both ends of the vehicle because we feel the benefit of knowing where the radar is coming from is indispensable. For laser, we installed dual laser shifters in the front of the vehicle. It is important to note that, for a good defense against laser, you need shifters. A system that only uses a laser receiver is doing nothing more than alerting you to the fact that you are about to get a ticket. A shifter is different in that, when it senses laser, it fires light back at the operator at a pulse rate the gun can’t understand, enabling you to avoid a ticket. Based on the design of the front end of this customer’s RS5, we felt that dual laser shifters would be his best defense.
Securely Mounted Sensors Require Bumper Removal
If you look at the pictures, you will notice that we completely removed both bumpers. We feel this is the only way to do an installation properly. All of our sensors are mounted to factory metal or our in-house custom aluminum brackets. We use threaded inserts and bolt all of the sensors in place. Many shops will use double-sided tape or screw sensors into plastic. This is a time-saving but inferior method that JML Audio will never allow in our shop. If the sensors are not securely mounted, they will vibrate when you are driving up the road, which dramatically reduces performance.
Custom Mounted Indicators For A Factory-Installed Look
Inside the vehicle, we install indicator lights to alert the driver of a threat to the front or the rear. We disassembled the instrument cluster and installed the indicators behind the acrylic panel and in front of the gauges at the needle’s resting point. By doing this, we give the client a factory look while along with fast notification of any problem.
We also flushed a speaker for audible alerts into the lower dash panel in such a way that it looked as if Audi put it there.
In-house Testing Ensures Reliable Performance
Most shops would finish an install and, if it looked good, make sure everything fired up and give it back to the client. But that is not the JML Audio way. We own radar and laser testing devices, and we put our systems through a series of tests to make sure they are performing at their peak. We know that buying a custom-installed radar and laser defense system is an investment in your vehicle, so we aim to give you the best return on your investment.
When you are in the market for a custom-installed radar and laser system, we invite you to contact us HERE for more information. We will schedule a consultation appointment so you will have a dedicated time to come by with your vehicle and speak one on one with a team member. We can promise you two things:
