A repeat client from Edwardsville, Illinois, came to JML Audio with his 2013 BMW 650i looking for a custom installed radar and laser detector. We have worked on several vehicles for this client, but this was his first radar system. We scheduled a consultation so the client could come by with his vehicle and have a dedicated appointment with one of our team members.
One-On-One Interaction With Client And Vehicle Starts The Process
At JML Audio, we believe that the complexity of modern vehicles means the only way to properly be on the same page as the client is through one-on-one interaction with the vehicle. This allows us to look over the vehicle extensively with the client, exploring options for sensors and interior indicators. We spend significant time on talking to the client about likes and dislikes, and goals for the vehicle. We then take all of this information and work up what we feel is the best solution for the client. Once the client approves the estimate, we set an appointment time.
We do things differently from other shops. We go to extreme lengths to make sure our clients are getting the best-performing, most-reliable systems available. We even prefer to call detectors “radar and laser defense systems” because we feel our installed solutions are a step above anything else you may be offered. You are making a sizable investment to protect yourself from senseless tickets, so don’t you want the best protection available?
Front And Rear BMW 650i Radar Receivers For Ultimate Protection
In this BMW 650i radar protection system, we installed both front and rear radar receivers. It should be noted that all of our systems get front and rear sensors, because we feel you get superior protection from a system of this type. Let’s assume you are driving up the road and get shot with radar from the rear. Your rear indicator will go off, alerting you to slow down. As you see the intensity drop, you notice your front indicator starting to go off and realize you are now being shot in front. If you only had one radar receiver, you might have started to accelerate when the first alert started dying down, only to drive right into a speed trap. Always get front and rear radar sensors for ultimate protection!
Front And Rear Laser Shifters For Protection Coming And Going
We chose single laser shifters for the front and rear of the BMW. Since we look at every vehicle differently, we knew that the body design on this 650i would only require single shifters at each end of the vehicle. Many shops will automatically try to load the vehicle up with as many laser shifters as a client will buy. We think that is foolish and unjust. We can be confident about the quantity of sensors you need because we test each vehicle before we deliver them back to the client.
Our Testing Ensures Best Possible System Performance
If you ask any other shop about testing the system, you might be surprised at their answers. JML Audio has made the significant investment in radar and laser devices so we can determine the effectiveness of our installations once they are complete. This is just one more way you can know you are getting the best-performing system available.
Best Practices For Sensor Mounting Is The Norm At JML Audio
It is standard operating procedure for us to remove bumpers on a vehicle when installing a radar and laser defense system. All of our sensors are bolted to metal using threaded inserts and, if needed, custom aluminum mounting plates. We never use double-sided tape or screws to load our sensors, nor will we mount them to plastic. We know that sensors will vibrate when you are driving up the road if they aren’t bolted to a metal structure, and performance will be compromised.
Factory Looking Indicator Lights And Custom Mounted Speaker
Inside the vehicle, we install indicator lights to alert the driver to a threat to the front or the rear of the car. In this BMW, we removed the instrument cluster from the vehicle and installed the indicator lights behind the clear acrylic panel, in front of the gauge faces. This gave the indicators a clean, factory look befitting a luxury vehicle. The left indicator alerts the driver to a front threat and the right indicator alerts to a rear threat.
We also gave the client an audible alert through a speaker that we flush-mounted into the lower dash panel. We never zip-tie these under the dash, which is commonly done elsewhere in our industry. Again, we aim for a factory look while making the car easy to service.
Our Testing Ensures Proper System Function Before The Car Leaves Our Facility
As mentioned earlier, when we are done with the installation, we run all of our systems through a battery of tests to ensure the system is operating at peak performance. We want our clients to know that a custom-installed radar and laser defense system from JML Audio will be the highest-performing system on the market.
