A repeat client from Webster, Missouri, came to JML Audio looking to upgrade his 2009 Porsche 911 connectivity. We work on a lot of luxury vehicles, and one of our most popular upgrades is called our set of “modern connectivity packages.” These are for clients who love their vehicles, but want to have the convenience and safety features of newer models.
JML Takes A Unique Approach To Selling, We Listen
JML Audio is very different in how we handle the sales process, in that we view our customers as clients, and we don’t sell items, but rather, offer complete, integrated solutions for them. We accomplish this by scheduling consultations where we sit down with the client and get to know them better. We take significant time to look over the vehicle together, and we listen as the client tells us what they like and don’t like about the vehicle. We ask questions to help us understand what new benefits they would like to have, and we takes notes on all of these discussions. Then we work up what we feel are the best solutions for the client, and we offer these as a proposed system design. Once the client approves the proposal, we set an appointment time to provide the integration of that specific system design.
Kenwood Navigation System Is the Hub For This 911 Connectivity Upgrade
In this particular vehicle, the client was most interested in getting connectivity and safety products installed. We began the installation with a Kenwood navigation system in the dash. Modern Porsches are very different from most cars in that the stereo system talks to other components in the vehicle over a fiber optic network called a MOST system. This is important to know because it is one of the most electronically advanced systems on the road today. We use a very special device we call a MOST fiber optic Bose interface, which allows the Kenwood unit to talk on the fiber optic network. When interfaced properly, the new navigation unit works seamlessly with the rest of the factory electronics in the vehicle, including the steering wheel audio controls.
JML Audio provided custom paint-matched dash trim panel to make all parts look as if they were designed specifically by Porsche for the vehicle. While some other pre-made dash panels are available, they do not meet our stringent standards for fit and finish.
Center Console Located Apple Plug Allows Smartphone And iPod Control
The new navigation unit gives the client Bluetooth for hands-free calling along with full phonebook access. We installed an iPod and iPhone plug in the center console that allows full touchscreen control over his music library, along with Pandora and iHeart Radio.
USB Input And Satellite Radio Offer Even More Sources
We installed a USB port in his glove box, allowing control over thumb drives and portable hard drive music collections, or to charge portable electronics. We also installed a SiriusXM tuner; note that we hide both the satellite antenna and navigation antenna in these systems, while still allowing great reception. Again, it is our feeling that a car as beautiful as a 911 Turbo would be spoiled by having two black antennas surface-mounted on the outside of the vehicle, so we take the time and effort to hide them properly.
Front And Rear Backup Cameras For Maximum Safety
Backup cameras are gaining in popularity daily and, if you have ever driven a 911, you know how much they need this technology. JML Audio imports our own multi-view–angle camera from Japan, because we feel it outperforms anything currently available in this country. We installed cameras in the front and rear of the vehicle, so now the client can pull into a parking spot, or back up, safely, knowing he is protecting himself and others from damage or injury. The multi-view camera is unique in that it uses digital technology to allow several different views from the camera for the ultimate in safety and performance.
As you can see from the pictures, we carefully removed the front and rear bumpers when installing the cameras. It may be more time-consuming, but doing so ensures the client of the best-quality installation, and makes it easier to service the vehicle.
What You See Here Is What We Do
When we took the pictures of the installation in progress, we did not change anything to make the pictures look more impressive. What you see is what we do. In all of our installations, we give particular care to the vehicle to guarantee the client gets it back in the same condition as we received it. We use protective tape near any area we will be working on, and we store any removed panels in specific locations, off the ground and on carpet-wrapped shelves to protect the finish.
Here at JML Audio, this is just a normal day – we treat every vehicle like a part of the family. We understand the significant investment you have made in purchasing your vehicle, and we guard the trust you have placed in us.
Delighted Client Plans For Further Upgrades
As they say, the proof is in the pudding, so we were excited to see the expression on our client’s face when he picked up his Porsche. He was delighted, marveling at the factory fit and finish of our installation, and how well everything was integrated. And that made our day. In fact, he was so impressed that he made plans for more upgrades to this vehicle.
