A new client from Edwardsville, Illinois, came to JML Audio with a beautiful 2013 Mercedes SL63 AMG. Not only is this car beautiful, it packs a 557 hp, twin turbo V8 punch that turns it into a supercar whenever you press the accelerator. He was interested in protecting his driving experience with a laser or radar detection system. If you are the kind of person who cares deeply for your vehicle, whether it is a Dodge Ram or a Ferrari, follow along as we walk you through the build process on this incredible vehicle.
For well over a decade, we have been known to install the best-performing laser and radar detection systems. In fact, it is our humble opinion, that our systems – which we call laser and radar defense systems – will outperform other systems, thanks to our meticulous attention to detail in the installation process.
Initial Consultation To Design The Perfect SL63 Radar and Laser Defense System
It all starts with the initial consultation. JML Audio will sit down with a client and the vehicle. We will talk about the client’s goals for the vehicle, and any past work that may have been done. We will spend significant time on going over the vehicle itself so we can determine the best locations for the equipment, and the products needed to create a finished product that will meet a customer’s expectations. Then we will offer custom-installed solutions that we feel will best fit the needs of the client. Once the client approves the solution, we make an installation appointment.
Front And Rear Radar Receivers For Maximum Protection
In this vehicle, we installed both front and rear radar receivers. It is important to note that we always install them at both ends of the vehicle so the client know two things:
- Whether radar is being shot at the front or rear of the vehicle.
- If they are going from one speed trap to a second one, so they can avoid a ticket.
Front And Rear Laser Shifters For Maximum Defense
When it came time for laser defense, we installed dual front sensors and a single rear sensor. Our laser sensors go beyond detecting laser to defending you from it. When our sensors detect laser being shot at them, they immediately fire beams of light back at the gun at a pulse rate it can’t understand. This enables the driver to avoid a costly ticket. Most systems on the market only sense laser, so all they are good for is alerting you to the fact that you are about to get a ticket.
Front And Rear Bumper Removal Ensures Optimal Sensor Mounting
It is standard operating procedure for JML Audio to remove the front and rear bumpers when installing our systems. We feel this is the only way to guarantee our clients the best combination of performance and reliability. All of our sensors are bolted to existing metal, using threaded inserts, or we custom-make any needed aluminum brackets. Most shops will use screws or double-sided tape, and will put sensors on plastic that will vibrate while you’re driving. This dramatically lowers the performance of the sensors, and the reliability of the installation itself may be suspect.
We also give great care to the location of the sensors to optimize their performance. You will never see an installation where we put a sensor in a spot because it was easy. Rather, we will install a sensor in the spot that gives optimum performance.
System Indicator Lights And Speaker Integrated Into Interior
Inside the vehicle, we always aim to keep the integrity intact while making the system very user-friendly. In this SL63 AMG, we disassembled the instrument cluster and installed the indicator lights behind the turn signal indicators. If the system detects a front alert, the left blinker illuminates; a rear alert will illuminate the right blinker. Our systems also come with an audible alert and, again, we don’t just zip-tie the speaker into a convenient location. We give the customer a factory-looking, reliable installation. In the Mercedes, we removed the lower dash panel – if you look closely, you will see where we machined the panel above the gas pedal to house the speaker. Then we plastic-welded it in place from behind, giving it a factory appearance and the utmost in reliability.
Full System Test At Our Facility For Guaranteed Protection
Now, once the system is installed and everything fires up, most shops would hand the keys back to the client. Not JML Audio. We test each sensor with our own in-house radar and laser products. Let’s be honest here. If your vehicle is the second-biggest investment you are likely to make after your house, and a custom-installed radar and laser defense system is going to support that investment, don’t you want all the performance for which you have paid? We think you deserve it, so we do everything in our power to protect you from a ticket.
When you are interested in getting a custom-installed radar and laser detector, we invite you to contact us HERE at JML Audio, and we can set up a consultation with you. We look forward to meeting you.
