A repeat client from Wildwood, Missouri came to JML Audio looking to upgrade the audio system in their 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. If you have been in a Jeep Wrangler while driving on the open road, you’ve probably noticed that the sound is anemic, and there surely is not enough volume to make it enjoyable. During our consultation, it was easy for us to see that the client was completely in agreement with this.
This particular client had some product from his last vehicle that we were able to use in this build. This is important to know when it comes to buying better audio equipment. Many times your system can be removed from your vehicle, and it can be installed in your new one. Now you can view many of these products as more of a long-term investment as they can be used for years and years. After our consultation we put together a proposed system for the client and they approved it. An installation date was set.
Kenwood DNX9990HD Is The Hub For This Complete Entertainment System
In the dash, we started off with a Kenwood DNX9990HD navigation system from his earlier vehicle. This unit is the hub for the entertainment system and gives the client integration with his smartphone for Bluetooth hands-free and music streaming. We retained the factory USB port in the center console and added a second USB in the glove box for additional music and charging options.
A SiriusXM tuner was installed along with a backup camera. If you look closely at the pictures, you will notice the camera is mounted on the lower section of the rear bumper on a plate. We custom-made that plate for proper mounting of his camera. The factory steering wheel controls were also configured to work with his Kenwood navigation unit.
Audison AVK6 Speakers Provide Realistic Sound At Concert Levels
In the front of the Jeep Wrangler, we used an Audison AVK6 component package. The 6.5” woofers were mounted in the original speaker enclosures at the bottom of the door, and custom mounts were made for the tweeters so they could be installed in the factory location in the dash.
Rear Speakers By Audison Help Fill The Jeep With Quality Sound
For rear fill, we installed the same Audison AVK6 package in the sound bar. In the pictures, you will notice the custom mount to hold the tweeters. The speakers were installed in such a way that the original grills could be retained, making the front and rear speakers in this Jeep Wrangler look factory.
Stealth Cooler Enclosure Provides Low End Sound Reinforcement
When it came to bass, we chose our JML Audio cooler enclosure for several reasons. First, it is a Jeep Wrangler, and it will get dirty and wet back there. The enclosure is made out of a durable composite material that weathers well and will stand up to thrown cargo. It also has a stealth look, so prying eyes don’t see a valuable subwoofer. If you look closely at the enclosure, you will notice that it sits off the floor allowing easy removal of the carpet for cleaning. We chose an Audison 10” subwoofer, the AV10. The enclosure is ported and down-firing to maximize output and clarity.
Welded Steel Amplifer Rack Securely Fastens Audison AV5.1K Amplifier
The AV5.1k amplifier was another Audison product. This is a very unique amplifier and provides well over 1000 watts of clean power to the speakers, so volume is not an issue. In keeping with the stealth design of this build, the amplifier was installed in the rear storage compartment under the false floor. A custom, metal amp rack was made and installed to secure this incredible amplifier properly.
Fingertip Control Of Subwoofer Output Comes From Flush Mounted Audison Bass Control
For the finishing touch, we disassembled the Audison bass level control knob and made a custom mount for it on the front side of the center console, allowing easy access to bass level changes.
This Jeep Wrangler Client Was All Smiles!
We were absolutely thrilled with the outcome of this vehicle. It had incredible output, easily achieving concert level volume. The sound quality was crystal clear, and you can now hear all the nuances in the music. The bass had real authority that you can feel in your chest, and you knew it was a kick drum, not a cheap imitation. We were delighted to demo this vehicle for the client. We felt we had achieved all of their goals, but as they say, the proof is in the pudding. The smile on their face let us know instantly that they loved it.
So, if you own a Jeep and are not satisfied with the sound quality of the audio system, give us a call here at JML Audio. We would love to get together with you and prove a one on one audio consultation. We will go out to your vehicle and go over it together. Then we will get to know what you like and what you dislike about the factory stereo system. We will take that information and custom design a solution for your needs.
Please stop in, call, or you can always contact us here for more information.

Looks like a great setup and install. I have the same jeep and I’m putting the pieces together for my build, I’m curious as to where you mounted the front and rear crossovers. Also, did you run your own speaker wire through the original soundbar grommets or did you use the original harness? I would think in order to let the crossover do its job, you had to delete the stock wiring to the speakers. Thanks in advance for any details you can share with me.

What is the cost for this whole package of upgrade for a 2016 Jeep 4dr sport unlimited without the alpine system?
Is it a simple plug and play? and can I still utilze the steering wheel controls?
